Thanksgiving is Over, but We’re Still Grateful To Be in the USA!

We concluded last Wednesday’s Thanksgiving post with:

So among the many things that we are thankful for this year, we do thank God that we live in a country where we can freely and harshly criticize our elected and appointed officials. That is not the case in much of the world: whether measured by population or land mass. (So we pray for individuals in those countries that they may one day live in the same freedom that we enjoy.)

On Saturday, The Wall Street Journal posted an editorial, Singapore Strikes Again, about its continuing censorship and legal problems with the government of that small nation-state, and today’s edition reports about a Latvian economist, Dmitrijs Smirnovs, who was detained and questioned for two days by his own government because he spoke pessimistically about the future of Latvia’s banks and its currency.

So, while it is unfortunate that the turkey and cranberry sauce are gone, but we remain grateful for the Chairman’s excellent, left-over shiitake-mushroom stuffing. However, we’re especially grateful for being born and living in the land of the free; that makes it much easier for it to be the home of the brave, too.

Say a prayer for Mr. Smirnovs that he and his fellow Latvian citizens may one day enjoy the freedoms that we often take for granted.
